Internet Access for All
To improve broadband access in underserved communities in Manila by deploying mesh networks in three critical areas. This project involves conducting market research to identify the areas most in need, collaborating with partners like NYC Mesh to learn best practices, and piloting free broadband services with community training to ensure scalability.
Timeline:
Phase 1: Market Research (Months 1-2)
Conduct research to identify the top 3 areas in Manila with the greatest need for broadband access.
Collect data from reports, surveys, and local insights to assess internet connectivity, population density, and economic/educational need.
Select the final three target areas based on research findings.
Phase 2: Partnership and Training with NYC Mesh (Months 3-5)
Establish partnerships with NYC Mesh and similar organizations to collaborate on infrastructure development.
Undergo technical training on building and optimizing mesh network infrastructure.
Train local teams, including engineers and community volunteers, and develop educational materials to ensure knowledge transfer.
Phase 3: Pilot Free Broadband Service and Community Training (Months 6-8)
Plan and pilot the installation of mesh nodes in the selected areas, providing free broadband service.
Engage local communities, identify champions, and train residents to manage and maintain the network.
Monitor network performance and prepare for potential scaling to other underserved areas.
